Child abuse in South Africa is rife throughout the country. Helpless children are the victim of senseless crimes, which will leave our future generation with deep scars, not conducive to fostering a generation of leaders that will make our beautiful country a better place one day.
By harming our children, we destroy hope…not just theirs but our own. The future of our country, the future of the precious gems that call this country home is at stake. If we just stand by idly and accept the norms, we are allowing evil to take control one devious act at a time.
South Africans need to stand together and unite against child abuse. We all want a better South Africa, one that inspires hope and achievement through our valiant efforts as a multicultural, mixture of various indigenous people who inhabit this amazing piece of earth.
Recent studies show shocking statistics for child abuse in South Africa. These studies show that 1 in 3 South African children are abused, with statistics like this how can we expect to build a nation? There is nothing inspirational about an adult who misuses his power and exerts dominating force over helpless children.
These are general statistics that cover a broad array of crimes against children, South Africans have cause for concern because half of these crimes against children are not even reported. We need to stop child abuse and move South Africa forward through creating a culture and value system that protects and nurtures our youth in South Africa.
What Can You Do?
There is no quick fix solution to all the problems in South Africa, but ordinary people can make dramatic impacts on the youth, which in turn will have a knock-on effect for the future leaders of South Africa.
By creating a culture that protects our youth, we create a better environment for South African children where they can feel safe and loved.
We need to challenge criminals in our very own communities. Taking a stand against senseless crimes against children, is taking a stand for a brighter South Africa. Make a difference to someone’s life today by implementing small acts that can have dramatic effects. Do not let anyone mistreat a child. Report wrongdoings against children and care for those children who have been wronged.
To get an understanding of what it is that children must endure after being abused, visit a home for abused children for a single day. The team here at #MichaelJohnConnor are always happy to see volunteers’ faces.
Form a community centre where children can speak to an adult in a safe and warm environment. Help children stop the cycle of abuse against them. Children are more than happy to talk about the problems affecting their lives if they feel like someone will truly be able to change their circumstances. Be a role model for our youth and help us change South Africa.
